Gretchen chats with us about Portland vs. NY and her rescue dog Harry

Before Gretchen won season 8 of Project Runway and moved on to New York (where she is KILLING IT), she was a beloved Portland designer and creative force. Along with crafting beautiful wares, she brought together the Portland fashion community with the Content event at the Ace Hotel. She took some time out of her busy schedule to talk to us about her rescue dog Harry, Portland fashion, and of course, Fetch glasses.

Tell us about your rescue pup. How did you find each other?

My mother and I rescued him from a bad breeder who didn't take good care of their breeding dogs. I had recently lost my father to cancer and my other Cavalier to a terrible car accident and saw the damage in him as a way to help a furry friend and myself at the same time.  He came home with me from the shelter for my 30th birthday and its been the best present I ever gave myself [and my mom! thanks mama!]. He's turned into quite a lovely little dude.

What are some of your favorite Portland haunts?

I always adored the rose gardens in the summer, I love SweeDeeDee for breakfast and I miss all the bridges!

How would you say Portland is style different from New York style?

It's less homogeneous, but more serious in New York. Lots of black! Portland is way more bohemian meets lumberjack.

You are always posting photos of fun and creative accessories. When and how do you like to wear glasses and sunglasses?

I wear my specs when reading and working...and I love to add a pair of sunnies to my summery days out on the streets!

How did you choose the Fetch Eyewear Dash Malt frames?

I have a pretty narrow face and smal'ish head, they fit my proportions just right and the Malt goes with every outfit.
