Fetch is able to fill single vision prescriptions in Polycarbonate, CR-39, 1.67 high index, or 1.74 high index material to suit a wide range of prescription strengths. If you need a specialty lens such as progressive you can purchase Fetch frames and take them to your local optician to have your prescription filled, or you can purchase them through our Portland store.
To complete your glasses Fetch will need your prescription information and your PD (pupillary distance) measurement. You can either fax it in, or email a picture or scan.
Most eyeglass prescriptions are valid for 1 or 2 years.
Fetch recommends visiting your optometrist or ophthalmologist at least every two years to monitor and maintain eye health. We do require a valid prescription to fulfill your order.
Pupillary distance is the measurement in millimeters between the centers of your pupils. An accurate PD is necessary to properly mount the lenses in your frame. It is common for the PD not to be included on the written Rx but should be on file with the examining doctor or the last location that made glasses for you. If you need assistance in tracking down your PD contact us.
Your contact lens prescription is rarely the same as your glasses prescription. Eyeglass prescriptions contain additional information that is not on the contact prescription or the contact box. Get in touch with your eye doctor to receive a copy of your eyeglass prescription.
As a general rule of thumb we recommend standard CR-39 lenses for prescriptions with a combined sphere and cylinder power of less than +4.00 or greater than -4.00 and high index lenses for those with prescriptions greater than +4.00 or less than -4.00.
Overall lens thickness can be affected by other factors including frame size and PD. If you have any questions about selecting the best lens for your prescription please contact us by phone or email.
Made of optical quality plastic (unlike those drugstore numbers) our reading lenses include anti-reflective and scratch resistant coatings just like their Rx counterparts. Fetch readers are available in quarter diopters from +0.50 to +3.50. Need different magnifications for each eye? No problem, just contact us directly to place your order.
CR-39 single vision prescription lenses:
Ideal for those with mild to medium corrections (between +4.00 and -4.00) CR-39 lenses are the optical benchmark for lightweight, abrasion resistant lenses with superior optical clarity. Ours come standard with anti-reflective and scratch resistant coatings. CR-39 lenses are not for use as safety glasses or for children’s eyewear.
1.67 high index single vision lenses:
High Index lenses are recommended for stronger prescriptions (over +4.00 or less than -4.00) to provide lightweight, optically crisp lenses with reduced peripheral distortion. A 1.67 High Index lens is 40% thinner than a CR-39 lens of the same power. Fetch high index lenses include anti-reflective and scratch resistant coatings.
Fetch frames are assembled and hand finished in China by a small manufacturer renowned for their quality and innovation. We source the best components from around the world to ensure that every piece can support our high standards.
All fetch frames are optical quality and suitable for prescription use.
Our frames are crafted of cellulose acetate, renowned in the optical field for its beautiful colors and a great durability. With heat, acetate frames can be adjusted for the ideal fit. Our Masa frames feature hand-carved bamboo temples. Bamboo is lightweight and has great tensile strength but cannot be adjusted like an acetate frame. Masa bamboo temples will gradually conform to the contours of your head but should not be heated or bent.
Frame hinges, rivets and corewires are made of copper-nickel alloy. Fetch hinges are three or five barrel fixed/standard hinges for stability and longevity. We do not offer flex or spring hinges as they have not met our requirements for withstanding wear and tear.
Each Fetch frame is bench adjusted prior to shipping but may require slight adjustments to personalize the fit. Most optical shops will provide minor frame adjustments for a nominal fee. Your lifetime warranty covers any frame damage caused by third party adjustments.
The best way to keep your glasses in great shape is to tuck them safely in their case when not in use. This protects them not only from lens scratches but from dust, dirt and the frame getting bent out of shape.
For day to day lens care, use the cleaning cloth included with your glasses. This cloth is ideal for removing fingerprints and smudges without damaging the lenses. Fight the temptation to use shirttails, paper towels or tissue to wipe lenses as the fibers may scratch the lens surface. To remove surface dirt, run the lenses under lukewarm water and gently rub the surface with your fingers. After the dirt is dislodged, pat dry with a soft cotton cloth and follow up with the lens cloth.
Acetate frames can be wiped with a soft cloth or run under lukewarm tap water to remove surface dirt. Avoid using chemical cleaning products on acetate as they may dull the luster of the plastic or mar the surface.
Bamboo components can be rinsed in water but should not be soaked or submerged. In wiping down or drying bamboo pieces you may notice slight color transfer which is normal and will diminish with time.
